In Vivo Evaluation of Dental Restorations: Colour Image Analysis vs Low-Coherent Optical Computer Tomography

Abstract
Durability of dentin- polymer interfaces in resin-bonded restorations remains a clinical dentistry challenge. In the present paper evolution of bonded interfaces is estimated using two methods:.
1. the method of visual diagnostics that involves digital processing of color images of composite restorations and allows the evaluation of adhesive interface quality over time.
2.low-coherent OCT as а non-invasive tool for in vivo, in situ clinical diagnostics of adhesive interfaces.
The study examined the applicability limits and accuracy of both methods in clinical practice.. It was shown that digital color image analysis provides high resolution for superficial assessment but is limited to surface defects, while OCT allows for the detection of subsurface and internal defects, though its resolution and depth of penetration depend on the optical properties of the tissues.
The combination of both techniques enables a comprehensive, non-invasive evaluation of adhesive interfaces, improving diagnostic accuracy and prognostic value for long-term clinical outcomes..
