Development of Silver SERS-Active Substrates for Spectroscopic Analysis of Blood Plasma

Abstract
Surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) is a promising technique for the highly sensitive analysis of biological fluids, providing information on changes in their molecular composition. Of particular interest is the application of SERS to blood plasma analysis for the identification of spectral features potentially associated with cancer and suitable as candidate diagnostic biomarkers. In this work, silver SERS-active structures formed on titanium substrates by electrochemical deposition are investigated. The fabrication conditions are optimized and the spectral characteristics of the resulting substrates are evaluated using a range of model analytes. The developed substrates are subsequently applied to the acquisition and analysis of Raman spectra of blood plasma.
