Abstract
This study focuses on the development of a prototype rapid test for detecting decreased calcium levels in blood. The proposed approach is based on the preliminary separation of plasma from a small-volume venous blood sample, followed by the generation of an optical signal within a paper-based indicator zone. The key objectives include the selection of an appropriate membrane for plasma separation, optimization of the concentration of a calcium-sensitive metallochromic indicator, and minimization of the influence of the paper substrate on the optical response. The feasibility of optical detection of clinically relevant calcium concentrations in biological samples is investigated.
