Abstract
This study presents a comparative analysis of the antioxidant properties of Sedum maximum and Sedum purpureum. Using molecular modeling, the interactions of biologically active compounds, including kaempferol and quercetin, with malondialdehyde (MDA), a lipid peroxidation product, were investigated. Special attention was given to gallic acid, a component of S. purpureum. The results demonstrate that gallic acid exhibits a strong binding affinity both to antioxidants and MDA, contributing to the stabilization of complexes and enhancing radical scavenging efficiency. These findings suggest that the superior antioxidant potential of S. purpureum compared to S. maximum is attributed to the synergistic action of its polyphenolic compounds, particularly gallic acid, highlighting its promise as a natural source of antioxidants.
