Abstract

The formation of the fluorescent output of random media pumped by pulsed laser
radiation is considered in terms of spontaneous amplification of statistically
independent partial components of the fluorescent field, propagating in the pumped
medium along random paths. In the framework of this phenomenological model,
the spectral quality of the fluorescence output depending on the decreasing
transport mean free path of fluorescence light in the medium is limited by
competition between the decreasing dwell time of fluorescence photons in the
medium and their characteristic amplification time. The modeling results are
supported by numerous empirical data on the spectral properties of random lasing
depending on the pump intensity.
