Abstract
Cancer is a deadly disease characterised by abnormal cell growth. More than 10 million cases of cancer are diagnosed each year worldwide. One of the most common ways of treating cancer is by injecting drugs that promote the death of cancer cells - chemotherapy. However, its use is toxic to the rest of the body. High cardiotoxicity, allopaecia and weight loss are common side effects of the treatment. Anthracycline drugs are used for almost all types of tumours. Therefore, dosage selection is critical to the efficacy of treatment. At the moment it is determined by body surface area. Such a coarse dose calculation is due to the difficulty of determining residual concentrations in the patient's blood and the need for a personal approach to the calculation in each individual case. We have reviewed what approaches already exist. What developments are currently available and which of these have the potential to be developed for use in medicine for classical laboratory approaches and point of care systems.
