Diffraction of a wave packet on a dielectric layer with dispersion: a spectral approach

Abstract

The electromagnetic pulse is calculated by the spectral method in the form of a finite wave packet in space that has passed through a layer of homogeneous dispersing dissipative substance of thickness d. It is shown that the output pulse appears no earlier than after time d/c, while it weakens and expands with the formation of a tail. The transit time of the main part of the pulse is longer than d/c, tunneling through the plasma layer has been numerically investigated, while the paradoxes of Hartmann-type tunneling are not observed.
