Multimodal Optical Imaging and Nanotechnology

Abstract

This presentation consolidates advanced imaging techniques and therapeutic strategies based on three pivotal studies. The first study investigates the application of spectral-domain optical coherence tomography (SD-OCT) combined with gold nanorods (GNRs) to achieve high-resolution 2D/3D imaging of live mouse embryos. The incorporation of GNRs significantly enhances OCT signal strength, image contrast, and penetration depth, leading to improved spatial localization and clearer delineation of organ boundaries in E9.5 and E10.5 embryos. The second study presents a multimodal imaging strategy that integrates photoacoustic (PA) imaging, OCT angiography (OCTA), and laser speckle (LS) imaging to monitor tumor angiogenesis and assess nanotherapeutic interventions. These investigations lay a theoretical and technological foundation for the development of advanced, targeted diagnostic and therapeutic strategies for tumors. Finally, the third study integrates NIR-II photoacoustic (PA) and OCTA molecular imaging with photothermal therapy (PTT) for the treatment of bladder cancer (BC). Utilizing the NIR-II hyaluronic acid-IR-1048 photothermal agent, which exhibits strong NIR-II optical absorption and superior tumor-targeting capabilities, enables the dynamic monitoring of BC microvascular changes. This ultimately facilitates effective minimally invasive PTT with high sensitivity and specificity for precision therapies targeting urinary system tumors. Collectively, these studies highlight the potential of multimodal imaging technologies to advance research in embryonic development, oncological treatments, and therapeutic interventions.
