DYNAMIC FEATURES OF PERIPHERAL BLOOD FLOW PULSATIONS ACROSS SLEEP PHASES: pilot study in search of the central regulatory mechanism

Abstract

The influence of higher nervous activity on the processes of baroreflex regulation and autonomous control of the cardiovascular system is of considerable interest both for understanding the fundamental regularities of organism. Signals of peripheral blood flow (BF) may be modulated by sleep stages and thus expand the understanding of the mechanisms of the autonomic system regulation in different sleep state. In this paper the low-frequency (LF) oscillations in the frequency range 0.05-0.15 Hz and high-frequency (HF) oscillations in the frequency range 0.15-0.50 Hz are studied. An assessment of the power spectrum showed the presence of fluctuations of pulsations in the vascular bed of the peripheral link in all known diagnostic frequency ranges, which are variable relative to the sleep phases, especially in the neurogenic, respiratory and pulse ranges.
