Abstract

We explore numerically the impact of additive Gaussian noise on the spatio-temporal dynamics of ring net- works of nonlocally coupled chaotic maps (logistic map, Henon map, and Ricker map). In rings of nonlocally coupled logistic, Henon, and Riker maps, phase chimera states can be observed. We show that there is an optimal value of the noise intensity that leads to 100% probability of chimeras’ appearance. Moreover, the coupling strength range at which chimera states are observed can be the widest at a certain optimum noise level. This phenomenon of a constructive role of noise in the appearance of chimera states has been called “chimera resonance”.
