Abstract
We have shown experimentally that the interaction of upconversion nanoparticles with erythrocytes leads to changes in their size and shape. One of the reasons for this is thought to be a change in the viscosity of the erythrocyte membrane.
We used a fluorescent probe, pyrene, to determine the change in viscosity.
We have shown that the change in viscosity depends on the presence or absence of disease and on the type of nanoparticle shell.
