Abstract
Among the outstanding researchers of the nature of the Russian Empire in the XVIII century, stretching from the Baltic States to the Commander Islands, is a cohort of Russian and Russian foreign scientists whose names are inscribed for centuries in the tablets of the history of the state. These are full members and academicians of the St. Petersburg Academy of Sciences – Krasheninnikov S.P., Lomonosov M.V., Falk I.P., Laxman E.G., Pallas P.S., Gmelin S.G., Geogri I.I., Guldenstedt I.A., Zuev V.F., Sokolov N.P., etc. In the works of these major scientists, their own observations from expeditions to various provinces and sides of the Russian state are used and comprehended. For many foreign scientists, Russia has become a second fatherland, however, and the state owes these servants of science the study of its natural resources and the way of life of the peoples who inhabited it in the XVIII century. Each of these scientists shone in the sky of the nascent dawn of Russian science with their discoveries and research, and the European scientific beau monde treated new discoveries from Russia with surprise and reverence. Despite the time of the published works of scientists, which are also used by our contemporaries, some of their works are still in manuscripts, and some are only in the original publications. Thus, Pallas P.S.'s epoch-making work "Zoographia Rosso-Asiatica", published in Latin, is the first systematic description of the fauna of Russia and the beginning of the entire Russian zoological science, although this major work has not yet been translated into Russian. Nevertheless, the foundation in the formation of Russian science in its various fields was laid by these scientists, whose research and developments will be applied by the current and future researchers of the nature of the Russian state for many years to come.
