Discrete breathers in low-dimensional systems
Sergey V. Dmitriev,1,2
Abstract
Discrete breathers are spatially localized vibrational modes in defect-free lattices. According to a large number of molecular dynamics studies and several ab initio studies, low-dimensional structures such as carbon nanotubes, graphene, h-BN, etc. support discrete breathers. A review of existing works on this topic will be carried out and a possible effect of discrete breathers on the physical and mechanical properties of low-dimensional structures will be discussed.
