Abstract
The history of oncological hyperthermia (a method of fighting tumors by heating them) dates back to cases of cancer treatment with concomitant febrile diseases described in the 18th-19th centuries. In fact, the main patterns of hyperthermia were described in the early 1960s. These are the ability of tumors to accumulate heat due to a decrease in perfusion, tumor damage at a temperature of 42°C and above, the development of thermotolerance after sublethal exposure, etc. At some point, hyperthermia was proclaimed the fourth main method of fighting cancer along with surgery, chemotherapy and radiotherapy. However, at the same time, negative results accumulated due to non-locality and toxicity to the whole organism. In the 21st century, these obstacles can be overcome with the help of lasers and nanoparticles.
