The specifics of scientific knowledge: common misconceptions
The purpose of this report is to show that many common ideas about the nature of scientific knowledge need significant clarifications, and sometimes they are misconceptions. The report contains the following common theses and our comments on them.
Thesis 1: "Art is subjective, but science is objective." Thesis 2: "Science develops continuously and progressively". Thesis 3: "The natural science field of knowledge is self-sufficient". Thesis 4: "Correct scientific ideas and theories quickly displace incorrect". Thesis 5: "The result established on the basis of mathematics has absolute reliability".
