Application of FTIR spectroscopy to determine the content of sulfadimesine in tablets

Yuliya A. Fomina, Nataliya B. Shestopalova, Saratov State Medical University, Saratov, Russia

Abstract

In recent years, there has been a tendency to switch to the expanded use of IR spectroscopy for screening the quality of medicines, allowing for rapid, economical and accurate analysis.
In this regard, the aim of the work was to evaluate the possibility of using the method of FTIR spectroscopy for the determination of sulfadimesin in tablet dosage form.
Identification and quantitative determination of sulfadimesin in tablets was carried out by the characteristic absorption bands of the sulfogroup. The optimal method of sample preparation without preliminary separation of the active pharmaceutical substance from the excipients included in the tablet is proposed, the possibility of subtracting the background spectrum of the auxiliary components when registering the spectra of samples is shown. To assess the quantitative content, the method of calibration graph was chosen, the range of detectable contents is 0.5-3 mg in the sample. The correctness and reproducibility of the developed technique is statistically evaluated and the prospects of using the method of FTIR spectroscopy for quality control of tablets according to the indicator "Quantitative determination"are shown.
