Abstract

In this study, a comparative study of 5-aminolevulinic (5-ALA) acid and hexyl aminolevulinate (HAL) was conducted for the photodynamic diagnostics (PD) and photodynamic therapy (PDT) of precancerous conditions. The use of HAL in PD allows achieving the highest contrast of pathologically altered tissue relative to healthy tissue. In the case of cervical dysplasia with the application of HAL in the cervical epithelium 2 hours after the introduction of the photosensitizer, the fluorescence intensity of protoporphyrin IX (PpIX) was 5 times higher than with the use of 5-ALA. Pulsed irradiation made it possible to avoid the use of anesthesia inpatients, whereas, with continuous irradiation, patients experienced pain of varying degrees from a burning sensation to sharp pain in the photodynamic impact zone.
