Investigation of fiber-optic Raman spectroscopy system for the presence of spectral noise signals and their intensity

Dmitry N. Artemyev,1 Anastasia A. Shatskaya,1 Samara National Research University, Samara, Russia

Abstract

This work is devoted to the sequential analysis of all elements of a standard fiber-optic Raman spectroscopy system (laser, fibers for delivery/collection of radiation, filters, lenses) for the presence of spectral noise. This noise can lead to the appearance of parasitic bands in the recorded spectrum of the sample or reduce its signal-to-noise ratio. Based on the experiments, the ratios of the informative Raman signal from the sample and the parasitic spectral signals from the elements of the optical circuit were obtained. Noise spectra of laser sources, Raman-luminescent signals of common optical substrates of lenses, filters, and optical fibers are demonstrated. The presence of parasitic peaks in the recorded Raman spectrum was experimentally confirmed by the example of crystalline silicon.
