Abstract

The wide spread of biomedical applications related to the effect of laser radiation on gold nanoparticles leads to the need for a thorough study of their interaction. In this work, the photomodification of gold nanoparticles of various shapes (nanorods, nanostars, nanoantennas and nanoshells) and composite nanoparticles was studied under precise control of single particle / single pulse condition. Specifically, the particles moved along a capillary flow and irradiated by a nanosecond pulsed laser. Using the extinction spectroscopy and electron microscopy, the threshold laser power values for the photomodification of these types of gold nanoparticles were found. The initial threshold value of the pulse energy is determined as that causes the initial change in the shape of the particles begins. The final threshold value causes complete transformation of nanoparticles into nanospheres. It was found that the formation of silica shell on the surface of nanoparticles leads to an increase in their photostability and increases the thresholds for the beginning and complete photomodification of nanoparticles.
This work was supported by the Russian Science Foundation (project No. 19-72-00120). The synthesis of gold nanoantennas was supported by the Russian Science Foundation (project No. 18-14-00016-П). The development of the setup (Grishin O.V.) was supported by the government of the Russian Federation (project No. 14.Z50.31.0044).
