Discrete breathers and their effect on properties of crystals

Abstract
Discrete breathers (DBs) are spatially localized vibrational modes in defect-free nonlinear lattices. DBs exist in crystals with different type of bonding: ionic, covalent, metallic and moleqular. Effect of DBs on macroscopic properties of metals is discussed.
