Discrete breathers and their effect on properties of crystals

Sergey V. Dmitriev, Institute for Molecule and Crystal Physics UFRC of RAS, Ufa, Russia

Abstract

Discrete breathers (DBs) are spatially localized vibrational modes in defect-free nonlinear lattices. DBs exist in crystals with different type of bonding: ionic, covalent, metallic and moleqular. Effect of DBs on macroscopic properties of metals is discussed.
