Abstract

Plasmon biosensors, platforms for the surface enhanced Raman spectroscopy and for surface enhancement of fluorescent signals, and other devices operating on the basis of planar plasmon structures have been actively studied and developed in recent years. The next step in the development of such systems may be the utilization of structures optimized for the broadband SPP excitation. This leads to device dimension reduction and improvement of performance. In this paper, we present a simple model for calculating the spectral response of the planar structure in the Kretschmann configuration in the case of incidence of a polychromatic plane wave. We obtain the ATR spectra of the plasmon structures and demonstrate the broadband SPP resonance in a wide spectral region from the visible to the middle infrared wavelengths. The results of the present work can be useful in the design of sensors and plasmon spectroscopy devices.
