On the maximum achievable current densities of vacuum field emission
Michael Davidovich, Saratov State University
Abstract
We consider the possibility of approaching the theoretical limit of the current density of vacuum field emission. Vacuum nanoscale multielectrode structures with several grid electrodes located at a potential exceeding the cathode potential are considered as structures. In such structures, a multi-well and multi-barrier profile of the quantum potential and resonant tunneling arise, for which the Schrodinger equation is solved. The limitations associated with the spatial charge and heat release are considered.Theoretical analysis gives densities 2 orders of magnitude lower than the limit values.
