Abstract

This work proposes an effective micromachining technique based on the nanosecond pulsed laser ablation, that allows selective removal of metallization from the surface of a flexible dielectric substrate (polyimide films) without damaging the substrate itself. The design and numerical simulation of the electromagnetic characteristics of the coplanar transmission line were performed in the Ansys Electromagnetics Suite environment. Several samples of a flexible coplanar transmission line have been fabricated using the proposed approaches. Comparison of the results of the experimental investigation of the reflection and transmission losses with the numerical simulation data showed good qualitative and quantitative correspondence. Also, several alternative methods of attachment (silver or graphite-based conductive adhesive, soldering) of the SMA connectors to the fabricated flexible coplanar transmission line have been studied experimentally.
