Abstract
Interstitial photodynamic therapy (iPDT) has been explored as a treatment option for glioblastoma. 5-aminolevulinic acid (5-ALA) induced accumulation of protoporphyrin IX (PpIX) in vital tumor can be used for both photodiagnosis and photodynamic therapy. While fluorescence guided resection (FGR) is widely used and by now approved in several countries, the therapeutic PDT approach is still under development. Dosimetry, treatment planning and online monitoring aspects are discussed for interstitial PDT via optical fibers.
