Determination of male reproductive function using microstructural waveguides
The diagnosis of male infertility, especially idiopathic, remains ineffective: there areno standard tests for assessing fertility. To solve this problem, the development of an integrated system based on microstructure waveguides and artificial intelligence is proposed.
Using spectral characteristics of seminal plasma and human ejaculate, obtained with use of microstructure waveguides, to evaluate sperm quality by means of neural networks

345 samples of ejaculate and 209 sample of seminal plasma were obtained in which the volume of ejaculate corresponded to the norm (WHO, 2010)
Main outcome measures Spermogram (concentration, motility and morphology). The spectral characteristics of samples of seminal plasma and human ejaculate, obtained using microstructure waveguides.
According to the minimum reference values of ejaculate indicators, the samples of ejaculate and seminal plasma were divided into 2 groups: “normal” and “pathology”. The spectral characteristics of samples of seminal plasma and human ejaculate are used as input parameters for constructing machine learning models. The neural network showed 100% accuracy.
Preliminary results obtained in this work, including the analysis of seminal plasma and/or ejaculate of 350 men, show the high promise of the proposed method of semen quality assessment which can be used in place of or in addition to standard techniques.
