Abstract

We consider two coupled chains: the first one consists of Raleigh oscillators whereas second one consists of non-oscillating elements with Raleigh friction. Neighbour elements are coupled by nonlinear Morse potential forces. Coupling between chains represents a parabolic potential.
The existence of dissipative discrete breathers in a separate one-dimensional chain of oscillators was demonstrated earlier. However, in this work it has been established that under certain initial conditions the breather-like excitations can also be excited in a chain of non-oscillating particles coupled with other chain of nonlinear oscillators. In this paper, the properties of the obtained excitations are studied, regions of their existence in the space of parameters and their basins of attraction are determined.
