Round table: Gravity: the force or the curvature of space?
Rozen V. V. Saratov State University
Abstract
A purpose of the report is to discuss various approaches to the gravity concept. It is known that Newton interpreted gravity as a force that propagates instantly and acts over any distance. Quantum theory assumes that gravity acts through the medium and propagates at a finite speed. Special relativity postulates that the speed of propagation of gravity does not exceed the speed of light. Einstein's General theory of relativity reduces gravity to the curvature of space, that is, to its geometry.
