Abstract

The paper describes a post-processing method for automatic detection of sleep and wakefulness states and for the diagnosis of spontaneous seizure activity in rats. Based on the analysis of the oscillational activity of ECoG in a certain frequency ranges, we calculate individual coefficients for each animal over the entire registration duration. Further, with a time step 2 - 3 minutes, we assess the vibrational dynamics on the animals ECoG - recordings and compare these results with the value of individual coefficients. By the moments of crossing the current values of the threshold boundaries of the coefficients we detect the moments of falling asleep and waking up, as well as epi-activity.
The results of diagnostics for 7 WAG/Rij rats and a comparison of automatic and manual diagnostics performed by a neurophysiologist using video recordings of animal behavior are presented. The quality of the automatic diagnostics performed is 96 - 99%.
