Artificial neural network predicts inter-areal functional connectivity

Abstract
We propose an approach to detect brain functional connectivity based on feed-forward artificial neural network. In particular, we apply multilayer perceptron to ECoG data of find thalamo-cortical functional relations in the WAG/Rij rats with genetic predisposition to absence epilepsy. Proposed algorithm revealed increased functional coupling between cortical layers and thalamic nuclei during the seizure onset relative to the baseline.
