Influence of the sensory information complexity on the features of low-frequency rhythms of human EEG

Alexander Kuc - Yuri Gagarin State Technical University of Saratov

Abstract

In this study, we analyzed the noninvasive EEG signals time-frequency properties during the processing of sensory information of various complexity. The analysis was restricted to the alpha (8-13 Hz) and low beta (13-25 Hz) frequency bands. The alpha-band spectral amplitude decreased during the processing of both complex and simple sensory information. The beta-band amplitude increased mostly during the processing of complex sensory information. The beta-band amplitude increased at the earlier processing stage in the prefrontal region that we supposed to indicate a selective attention mechanism.
