Abstract

There is an increasing demand for large transmission capacity in optical networks due to the high increase of internet services and cloud computing technologies. One of the possible solutions is space division multiplexing (SDM). In this paper, an elliptical core fiber is studied for SDM applications along with its polarization maintaining properties. The proposed fiber consists of three regions. The core has a shape of an ellipse and is filled with SiO2 doped with GeO2. The inner and outer claddings have a circular geometry and are filled with SiO2. All regions are assumed to be dispersive according to Sellmier model. We study the first LP modes supported by the ECF.
