Computational visual analysis of objects in the bloodstream using the methods of classical computer vision.

Abstract

Many rare objects, if present in the bloodstream, can serve as reliable markers of various diseases - circulating cancer cells, blood cells damaged by anemia, or malaria. Thus, visual analysis of various objects circulating in the bloodstream can be used for accurate medical diagnosis and individual treatment. Primarily in imaging flow cytometry. However, technical developments in this area require a reliable assessment of the change in the number of objects in the bloodstream. This article discusses and compares two methods for estimating the amount of recovered fluorescent particles based on the resulting visualization. The experiment was carried out on the basis of an SPIM-fluid flow cytometer with visualization. The first uses an estimate of the average brightness over time, the second is based on counting the detected objects using computer vision methods. The estimation was carried out taking into account reliable information on the number of particles.
